The Elephant's Secret Kitchen

(2018)  ISBN: 978–1–9996463–0–1

The Elephant’s Secret Kitchen is a cookbook collaboratively produced by a select team of students – of which I was a core member of editorial design team, and specialist staff from London College of Communication, along with the wonderful folks at Cafe Jamyang - situated at the Buddhist Centre in Elephant and Castle.

This beautiful publication was proudly printed in-house on the university Heidelberg lithography press, and asserts itself through its overall eco-friendly and sustainable design approach.

The paper for this limited run publication (published by And Castle Press) was made from materials like corn, olive and kiwi waste, combined with repurposed paper.
This initiative was in collocation with a natural dyeing workshop that educated participants of natural inks and dyes sourced from kitchen waste. The derived colours from the workshop were used to dye the bookmarks within the books, encompassing over 40 different shades of colour.

This publication was launched as part of LCC's participation in London Design Festival 2018. It is available for sale.

The core team's interview on working on this project can be accessed here.

The cookbook spotlighted by Southwark News.

The project was featured in The Elephant Magazine's 14th issue, accessible here.

We are so proud to share that The Elephant's Kitchen Cookbook was shortlisted for the British Book Design & Production Awards 2019, under the Lifestyle Illustrated section.

My article about my experience on the project was published in the 19th issue of Hole & Corner Magazine - in their "Making Good" issue.
